I have been using MSN for over 10 years now and happily accepted each upgrade without a complaint. The plain Messenger 7 was useable and provided efficient instant messaging, along with a few nice little features. Then there was Messenger 8 and I thought that was even cooler with all the new features they added. I was sad to see it go when Messenger 9 came along and took away some of the features that Messenger 8 had. But I quickly got used to 9. It was actually my favorite version out of all of them. Then the dreaded Windows Live Essentials 2011 was introduced. I did install it at first, but I didn't like it all so I uninstalled and went back to Messenger 9. But as everyone knows Microsoft forced the manadatory update for anyone that's using anything other than XP. Windows Live Essentials is the worst upgrade ever. At least the Messenger part. There are also way too many bugs. I can't say anything the other programs because I don't use them.
Pros: They kept the personal message box Satus changer in the toolbar preview Showing just the contact window in full view it has the contacts stretched out horizontally, which is pretty neat.
Cons: Boring sign-in window No option to remember only your email Slows down computer Erratic and frequent sign-outs Forces you to use a first and a last name and it can only be changed through your email page. If someone sends you a link to watch a video or vice versa, it automatically shares it and opens it in a side window in the conversation and there is no option to turn that off. Automatically groups messages together and there is no option to turn it off anymore. Has way too many bugs
